Terms & Conditions
Last updated: August 2026 · Torus Chess Academy
These terms are the agreement between you and Torus Chess Academy ("Torus Chess Academy", "we", "us") when you use toruschess.com, our parent and student portals, or our classes. By creating an account or booking a class you accept them. Please read them alongside our Refund Policy and Privacy Policy, which form part of this agreement.
1. Your account
- Accounts must be opened by a parent or legal guardian aged 18 or over. One account can cover several children in the same family.
- Please keep the information on your account accurate, and your password private.
- You are responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us at contact@toruschess.com straight away if you think someone else has access.
2. What we provide
We teach chess to children in live online classes — group cohorts, one-to-one sessions, and a structured curriculum across six levels. Every student is offered one free 45-minute assessment before any payment is taken.
From time to time we may change a coach or move a class. We will give you reasonable notice when we do. If we cancel a session, you can choose a replacement session or a credit — see our Refund Policy.
3. Fees and payment
- Prices are shown on our website and are payable in advance for each billing period.
- If we change our prices we will give you at least 30 days' notice before it affects you.
- If a payment fails, we may pause access to classes until the balance is settled.
Cancellations, refunds and credits are covered in our Refund Policy.
4. Behaviour and child safety
Everyone — students, parents and coaches — is expected to behave respectfully. We do not tolerate bullying, harassment or discrimination, sharing inappropriate content, or using our platform for anything unlawful.
Our coaches are selected, trained and supervised by us, and are required to follow our child-safety rules. If you ever have a concern about a coach, a class, or another student's behaviour, contact support@toruschess.com. We take these reports seriously and will act promptly.
5. Recording classes
Please do not record, photograph or stream a class without our written permission — other people's children are in the room. We do not record classes ourselves. If we ever decide to, we will tell you in advance and ask your permission first.
6. Our teaching materials
Our curriculum, lesson plans, worksheets, videos and branding belong to us. Your family may use them for your child's own learning. Please do not copy, share, publish or resell them.
7. What you need
Your child needs a laptop, tablet or desktop with a webcam and a stable internet connection. A headset helps for younger children. No physical chess set is needed — we use an interactive digital board. We are not responsible for problems caused by your own equipment or internet service.
8. Ending the agreement
You can stop classes at any time in line with our Refund Policy.
We may suspend or end classes if fees remain unpaid, if the behaviour rules in section 4 are seriously or repeatedly broken, or if someone's conduct puts a child or a coach at risk. We will always explain our reason. Where we end classes for one of those reasons, no refund is due for the current billing period.
9. Things outside our control
Occasionally something genuinely beyond our control — a major internet or power outage, extreme weather, illness, or government restrictions — prevents a class going ahead. We will reschedule it or add a credit to your account, and we will not be liable beyond that.
10. Our responsibility to you
We will deliver our classes with reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for indirect or knock-on losses, for interruptions caused by your equipment or connection, or for your child's results in ratings, tournaments or examinations — chess progress depends heavily on practice between lessons.
Our total liability to you is limited to the fees you paid for the billing period in question. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to exclude.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is significant we will tell you by email or through the portal. Continuing to use our services after that means you accept the updated terms.
12. Which law applies
This agreement is governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India will have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in another country, this does not take away the protections you have under your own local law, or your right to bring a claim there.
